News

We take possession of the new house Friday March 19. We'll install the window treatments over that weekend and move in Monday, March 21.

The 19th of March, 2010, is 1 year, 1 month and 5 days after our first drive down here, when we found the property that has been at the core of our life ever since.

More later.

Ralph, it's amazing that it took that long. It's amazing that your house up in Arlington sold as fast as it did. It could have gone out more than a year and the land lot in NC could have sold to someone else. So who knows. Maybe we be talking destiny here for you and Steve. I know we talked about building for many years and when the opportunity hit we jumped. Then the ordeal of finding a builder was truly tiresome. We even explored being a builder/owner and sub contracting the work. So I would say you guys got lucky but time is time and we ain't getting any younger. YOU WILL ENJOY THAT HOUSE!

Z&M, I have to say we've been amazed at the speed, relative ease, and incredible good luck we've had throughout this process. (I think just a year to sell a house and then build a new one from the proceeds--and be ready to move into it--is pretty fast.) The first miracle was being able to sell the Delaware land for nearly what we paid for it, thus freeing us to get on with life, out from under that debt, which was taking us nowhere. Then there was the Arlington house. It's truly beautiful, but one-of-a-kind, sellable only to a niche market. It just so happened the right person had had her eye on it forever, even before we put it up for sale, or you're right, we might still be trying to sell it. We've also had great help along the way. The Realtor who helped us with the land here is the one who put us on to Gary Haginbotham, a prince among home builders if ever there was one. The only real down note has been the ceaseless rain this winter and spring, but nobody can control that, and we're over it. All in all I'd say we've been truly blessed, and yes, we will enjoy it! Hope you do too, when you head north. Take a little detour to Route 17!

Well it did seem to go fast.. but isn't that the way it works for those of us outside an event.
So exciting your 1 year 1 month and 5 days milestone is right around the corner.. right next to spring solstice. Lovely!

My goodness, Ralph. It's hard to believe you're ready to move in in only a couple of weeks. It has been an adventure for all of us and an enjoyable one. I have watched another blogging friend on a similar adventure and thank you both for inspiring me.
